We ARE Revolutionary is committed to addressing the underlying causes of adverse childhood experiences, oppression, and violence in our community. Our vision is to foster grassroots liberation by promoting healing and offering political education to families. We aim to empower individuals to stand up for their rights and communities, nurturing a system that values people in policymaking and avoids criminalizing trauma.

We Are Revolutionary is proud to share our comprehensive Albany Safety Plan, created in partnership with 150 youth organizers from across the city. This plan is built on the belief that true safety comes from healing, opportunity, and community, not punishment. Together, we’ve outlined bold strategies to address poverty, trauma, housing, and gun violence through a public health lens, centering the voices of young people who live these realities every day.

We believe that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) pose significant barriers to civic engagement, especially for individuals confronting oppression, systemic racism, mass incarceration, generational violence, poverty, substance use disorders, and housing instability. The systems that target our community are designed to punish poverty and adversity, often steering individuals into cycles of policing through Child Protective Services, punitive practices in schools like suspensions and referrals to PINS, and mass criminalization.
In order to break these cycles, we must change the culture within directly impacted communities, creating pathways for healing, empowerment, and systemic transformation. Our work is centered on five key initiatives:
Political Education: We empower individuals through comprehensive political education programs, giving them the knowledge and tools to engage in the political process and advocate for systemic change.
Community Organizing: We unite families and individuals to address systemic issues through grassroots efforts like rallies, canvassing, phone banking and advocacy campaigns that push for justice and equity.
Family Empowerment: Our workshops and services focus on repairing family bonds, building communication and conflict resolution skills, and fostering empowerment.
Leadership/Youth Development: Through leadership and youth programs, we equip people with skills to succeed in school, work, and life, including mentorship, training, and after-school support.
Resource Connection: Our resource center connects individuals and families to educational, employment, and other opportunities that help them navigate and overcome systemic barriers.
By tackling these critical areas, we aim to break the cycle of systemic violence and oppression, empowering our community to overcome adversity, advocate for justice, and actively shape policy and law. The time for change is now— Join us, together, we will build the power to transform our future.
We Are Revolutionary 3 Programs:
T.R.A.I.L.O. (The Real Adventure is Located Outside): is a component that organizes youth trips to introduce them to diverse career opportunities and engage them in conversations with politicians. There is also a Revolutionary Camp, which is a leadership development and political education component, offering essential leadership skills and engaging participants in political discussions.
Legal Eagle: is a court watch program that equips youth with a deep understanding of the legal system, their rights, and the political process. It empowers youth with legal literacy and political awareness, enabling them to navigate their communities and the legal system confidently.
Community Healing: Revolutionary Arts is an arts component for adults, children, and youth. It harnesses the power of art to illuminate pressing social issues from the perspective of those directly impacted, providing a creative outlet for expression, instilling confidence, and contributing to progress through artistic projects. As part of this component, War facilitates an annual well-being conference called Sage the City, an organized space for healing from intergenerational trauma. It provides rest, repair, and restoration tools, fostering resilience through meditation, mindfulness practices, and addressing ACEs.
Youth Organizing Program: The Youth Organizing Program is the cornerstone of We Are Revolutionary’s mission, centering young people as leaders, advocates, and problem-solvers. Designed as both workforce and pre-workforce development, the program prepares youth with essential life and career skills while building their capacity to organize for change. Participants gain training in peer advocacy, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, teamwork, public speaking, and confidence-building, alongside campaign development and goal setting. More than just training, the program gives youth real-world experience: they design and lead campaigns on issues like poverty, ACEs, housing, and safety, transforming their lived experiences into strategies for collective action. By centering peer-to-peer advocacy and collaborative leadership, the Youth Organizing Program nurtures resilience, sharpens critical skills, and equips young people to succeed not only as organizers but as future professionals and community leaders.
